Cherubim TICA Information
Information on the recent TICA Vote for Cherubim
Dear Families,
I want to take a moment to share with you some recent developments within TICA (The International Cat Association) that affect the Ragdoll breed, including the lines many of you love that carry Mink, Sepia, and Solid coloring.
Breeders were originally reassured that any Mink, Sepia, or Solid cats registered before May 1, 2025 would remain recognized as Ragdolls. Unfortunately, this has not happened as expected—TICA has already changed many of these cats within their database to a new classification called Cherubim.
This has left breeders in a difficult position. I was led to believe I could register litters born before May 1, 2025 as Ragdolls, but under the current system, many are now being recorded as Cherubim instead.
Beginning May 2025, TICA has formally voted to make the following changes:
- Blue-eyed pointed cats will continue to be registered as Ragdolls.
- Mink, Sepia, and Solid cats will be registered under a new breed name called Cherubim.
- These two will fall under a “Ragdoll Breed Group,” similar to how Persians and Himalayans are grouped together but registered separately.
While this is confusing and frustrating for many breeders, please know that what truly matters has not changed: your kittens are the same loving, healthy, and beautiful companions, no matter the name TICA assigns them in their system. Their history, quality, and care remain exactly the same.
Breeders, including myself, are actively working with TICA to push for clearer naming and recognition—possibly the use of “Cherubim Ragdoll”—to better honor the breed’s history and genetic connection. We will continue to advocate for solutions that protect the integrity and identity of these cats.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support as we navigate these changes together. I will keep you updated on any further developments.
With warmth,
Michelle
